​Events

The Alice Mayo Society provides social interaction through a variety of events, including our annual Spring Brunch, Garden Tea and Medical Update Luncheon. Only Alice Mayo Society members are eligible to attend these events and children cannot be accommodated. However, we welcome children to our Family Ice Cream Social, and members can enjoy a night out with their spouses at the Mayo Clinic Staff Social. Coordinators and chairs of special events or committees must be active members of The Alice Mayo Society.

Alice Mayo Society events are sponsored by member annual dues as well as funding from Mayo Clinic Human Resources.

We will be collecting donation for the Ronald McDonald House at the Ice Cream Social. The RMH has a needs list that includes:
  • Household Items: trash bags, plastic forks, 12 oz coffee cups, dryer sheets, paper cups, liquid concentrated floor cleaner (Fabuloso or Lysol)
  • Gift Cards for gas stations, grocery store, movie theaters
  • Family Activities: science and craft kits, board games, recently released movies on DVD or blue-ray

The Alice Mayo Society will be collecting donations for The Landing, Rochester's non-profit organization that helps serve those experiencing homelessness in the community. Please consider bringing the following items to the Garden Tea to donate to The Landing:
  • single serving non-perishable food items (ex. bagged chips, Cup of Noodles, etc.)
  • individual bottles of water

Spring Brunch

Our Spring Brunch was held at the Mayowood Stone Barn on May 10, 2022.  AMS members enjoyed a beautiful day with delicious food, wonderful music and delightful conversation.  The event also included a donation drive of toys and art supplies for the Ronald McDonald House.

​Our Spring Webinar featured guest speaker Dr. David Ellis, FASM. Dr. Ellis presented “NASA’s Journey Back to the Moon and Beyond.”  He shared with us the steps planned to achieve NASA's goals for returning to the Moon by 2025, the technological hurdles, and the issues, including medical challenges, that face humans on long space flights.  If you were not able to join us for this virtual event, you can watch it here.


Medical Update Webinar

We hosted our annual Medical Update as a virtual event on Tuesday, December 7, 2021. Our guest speaker was Dr. Stephen Kopecky, a Mayo Clinic cardiologist and cancer survivor, as well as author of the book “Live Younger Longer.” He explained strategies to help prevent heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and more. AMS board officers for 2022 were also presented for a vote at the end of the meeting. If you missed the event, you can watch it here.


Inspirational Spring Webinar with Local Celebrity Chefs Video

We hosted an Inspirational Spring Webinar on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 on Zoom. Local celebrity chefs Shari Mukherjee and Julie Domaille shared how following their passions for cooking and baking landed them appearances on popular network TV cooking shows. Shari Mukherjee is a local Rochester resident and self-taught home-chef, baker, and food blogger who
went from "kitchen zero" to competing on FOX's hit show: MasterChef. She hopes her story can inspire others—no matter where they're starting—to get into the kitchen and start learning.

-Owner of Julie’s Cookie Creations
-Food Network’s “Christmas Cookie Challenge” contestant

Rochester resident Julie Domaille started her high-end cookie design business, Julie’s Cookie Creations, three years ago. She has built a large following as an instructor, conducting both in-home and virtual cookie decorating classes. Last year, she was selected by the Food Network as one of just 40 cookie designers in the United States to compete on the Christmas Cookie Challenge.
