A message to our members regarding COVID-19
April 2020
Dear Alice Mayo Society Members,
We hope you are well and safe at home during this unusual time where the COVID-19 pandemic has turned many of our lives upside down. This is truly an unprecedented time for all of us.
We are writing to you today to let you know that the Alice Mayo Society Board closely follows daily developments and the recommendations of Governor Walz and Mayo Clinic during this challenging time.
In accordance with the recommendations set forth, we had to make changes to our upcoming Alice Mayo Society events and activities:
-Our Spring Brunch, originally scheduled for May 12, 2020, has been postponed. The brunch will likely be held in early August. We will be in touch about a more definite date as we get closer to the event. Invitations will be mailed out as usual. In the event that it is not yet safe to meet in person during that time, or for those who prefer to stay at a safe distance but still would like to enjoy the speaker’s presentation, we are also working on virtual meeting possibilities.
-To ensure the safety of our members and to slow the spread of the virus, we have canceled our Lunch Bunch and other social group activities until further notice.
While this is a time of social distancing, we encourage you to stay in touch virtually—via Google Hangouts, Zoom, or other online meeting portals. Maybe the book club could go virtual, and the playgroup could organize a weekly virtual story time? Or the Lunch Bunch and Gourmet Club would like to share their favorite restaurants or recipes? Please share with our Activities Director Daly Feldman-Chicoma at activities@ams-mn.org of such virtual Alice Mayo activities so that we can communicate them.
This is also a time to come together as a community. Many of us have decorated our windows with hearts to thank the healthcare workers for their service and to brighten the day of those passing by. In addition, teddy bears in the windows allow children to go on a “bear hunt” while strolling outside with their families. These are fun ways to stay positive and engage with the community at a safe distance.
If you have more fun activities to share, please post them on our Facebook Members Group page. This page is also a place where members can reach out if they are in need of recommendations for childcare, grocery pickup/delivery or other community services. To join, click here or search Facebook for @AliceMayoSocietyRochester and follow the Group link. Please answer the questions so that we can easily identify you and approve you as a member.
As always, there are also many opportunities to donate to local charities in need at this time.
We appreciate your flexibility and understanding with the given situation. Please feel free to reach out with your questions, and we will be happy to answer them to the best of our ability.
For now, please take care and let’s continue to do our best to help flatten the curve!
Best regards,
